As a senior I’ve been going to a lot of job interviews lately. This can be a really stressful process, especially if you’re new to it. There are a lot of things you can do to prepare for them, and it will really help to calm some of your nerves!
The first thing I would recommend is researching the company. Since you’re applying for a job with them, they will expect you to be able to answer certain questions about them and the position. Make sure you are comfortable having a conversation about what the company does and some of the ways they achieve their goals.
It is also important to ask questions. If you ask questions it shows the interviewer that you are prepared and really care about having as much information as possible. Some good questions to ask would be, “If I were to be given this position, what would a normal day be like?” and “What is your favorite thing about working with this company?” Never ask about salary or benefits unless you are offered the job. That makes it seem like you are only interested in the money.
Next, and maybe the most important, is dress to impress! The interviewer gets their first impression of you when you first walk through the doors. This is not the time to be trendy, this is the time to be professional. Your safest bet is to go with a pant suit in either black, grey, or navy. Keep it simple. Do not wear too much jewelry, and keep cologne/perfume to a minimum.
If you do all of these things, you will most likely ace the interview! It is normal to be nervous, but try your hardest to be yourself and be professional. Good luck!
